About Masons:
Masonic Lodges are the foundation or root
organization of all higher Masonic Bodies such as Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies and
the Shriners. This page will, in the future tell you in more detail, what Masonry is
all about.
Masons are the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world with Texas
membership totaling 135,000. Among the charities of Texas Masons is helping
children through their leadership and generous support of hospitals, the Masonic Home and
School and a variety of educational programs. Masons were instrumental in the
establishment of public schools and public education in Texas.
The Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is one of the nation's leading pediatric centers
for treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain related neurological disorders and
learning disabilities. There is no charge for treatment at the hospital and
admission is open to Texas children up to age 18.
How to Become a Mason:
To become a Mason, you must be a man of good moral character, believe in a supreme being
(God) and the immortality of the soul, and you must ask a Mason you know to
recommend you. The friend you ask for a recommendation will furnish you with a
written petition which you must complete and submit to the Lodge.
The Master of the Lodge will appoint a committee to investigate your character. The
committee members will meet with you, to ask you some questions and answer any questions
you may have. After receiving recommendations from the committee members, the Lodge
members will vote on your admission. Contrary to popular belief, most individuals
who submit a petition, are accepted for the degrees in Masonry.
