Alex
G. Hodges
(1939-2002)
Brother Alex Grady Hodges, Past Master of Baird Lodge No. 522 and Cross Plains Lodge No. 627, was born April 10, 1939 in San Angelo, Texas. He had one brother, Vestal Hodges and one sister, Martha Hodges Brafford of Brady, Texas.
Brother Alex married Ella Martha Wilson in 1957. Together they had three children: Nancy Marie Hodges, born during 1958 in New York; Alex Grady Hodges Jr., born 1959 in NY: and Linda Lee Hodges, born 1962 in Texas. Grandchildren from this union include: Tammy Marie and Nancy Louise Hodges; Jennifer Lee and Angelia Lee Hicks; and Ella Marie, Wade Franklin, Isabelle Julia, and Linda Lee Wampler. There are several great-grandchildren including: Eisa Saleh Obad, Wade Franklin Wampler III, John Scott and Jenna Page Kardatkze, Michael Duwane, and Vincent Mariano Storm.
He
married Barbara Ann Pruet Hurst in Abilene an Aug. 26, 1964.
Brother
"Al" is remembered by his brethren as very personable, a quiet and
honorable man who never spoke ill of anyone, especially a brother Mason.
He always took interest in the affairs of others but never troubled them with
his. Neither would he mention that he was
a decorated veteran of two tours in Viet Nam with the U.S. Army and was
three times a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a Baptist and a member of
the Eastern Star and other organizations.
Alex was initiated an Enter Apprentice Mason at Baird Lodge 522 where he fervently served in numerous stations including Worshipful Master. He held a dual membership at Cross Plains Lodge No. 627 where he served in several capacities including Worshipful Master during Masonic year 2000-2001.
