H. L. (Tex) Evans
(1916-2001)

Brother Harold (Tex) Evans was born May 28, 1916 in Rotan, Texas to Samuel
Herman and Gracie Myrtle (Luman) Evans. He Married Verginia Davis on
August 8, 1939 in Baird. The Evans' had two children, a
daughter Harolyn and a son Jimmy.
Brother Tex was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during World War
II. After the war he worked as a Houston Police Officer and as a
shipping clerk for the International Longshoremen Association in
Houston. He and his wife Virginia moved to Rising Star in 1979 where
he served as Justice of the Peace for several years. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church, The Order of the Eastern Star, and Masonic
Lodges in Rising Star, Cross Plains, Sipe Springs. He initiated an
Entered Apprentice Mason on July 17, 1976, passed to Fellowcraft on August
19, 1976, and raised to Master Mason on September 16, 1976.
Brother
Evans was a year 2000 recipient of the Golden Trowel Award. He
consistently demonstrated exemplary and meritorious service to Cross
Plains Lodge No. 627, the Grand Lodge of Texas and the Cross Plains
community.
He was designated District Instructor during years 1999 and 2000.
He was Past Master Cross Plains Lodge No. 627 (1998-1999), twice
Past Master of Rising Star Lodge No. 688, and Past Master of Sipe Springs
Lodge No. 537.
He faithfully and fervently served as an officer of these
lodges in numerous offices and capacities.
Brother Evans coached his brothers in the degree work and
participated in Masonic funerals.
He made both personal and significant monetary contributions for
all of which he wished only to remain anonymous.
He always executed the duties of all his offices and stations with the
fidelity of his Masonic obligation.
He was of invaluable assistance and inspiration to our members, our
district, and adjacent lodges. (5/4/01)
