Norman Coffey
Brother Norman Coffey who faithfully served as Secretary of Cross Plains Lodge for many years, was born to Jim Coffey and Lula Gibbs Coffey in Cottonwood, Texas in the early 1900s. Norman had two brothers, Floyd and Opal. Brother Norman operated the Coffey Store in Cottonwood which was previously operated by both his father and brother Floyd. It is said that Norman was a good baseball player. Tragically, his brother Opal was fatally struck by a baseball while at bat. Bro. Coffey served as Senior Steward 1945-46, Secretary 1958-59 (many more years) and Worshipful Master 1950. Brother Coffey married Dixie Davis. They were both active in Eastern Star Chapter No. 455 having served many terms in the offices of Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron. Brother Coffey's grandparents [Ed N. Coffey (1843-1919) and Mary C. Coffey (1845-1919)] were among the earliest settlers of the Cottonwood area. It is thought that they were related to the Nordykes of Nubin Ridge, and other early settlers.
